Some beautiful packaging

I came across these juice cartons while doing a research project last year and they really stood out compared to the rest of the packaging. Designed by Naoto Fukasawa, a Japanese Industrial designer, they have a simple but extremely innovative aesthetic.

The cartons are designed to mimic the look and feel of the fruit they contain. A concept which seems very obvious but is also unique, something I have never seen before.

My favourite piece is the Kiwi carton which has a textured exterior which reflects that of the fruit.

Fukasawa says,
“I imagined that if the surface of the package imitated the colour and texture of the fruit skin, then the object would reproduce the feeling of the real skin.

I think its a very original design and a fresh perspective on how we view conventional everyday conveniences. Their tactile aesthetic can be universally appreciated and make labelling the cartons redundant, an interesting aspect which adds to their eco-friendly appeal.

For me the cartons best quality is how appealing they are, an attribute attained using biomimicry. Biomimicry imitates natural designs and systems within design to solve human problems. This example shows how effective it can be in practice.

All i need now is to find where I can buy some?
